Council's 'Community Partnership Grants Program' aims to help build our region by giving community groups a funding source to undertake new or growing initiatives, projects, or events that benefit the Southern Grampians Shire.

Community Partnership Grants

Council's Community Partnership Grants program has funded club building repairs, general equipment, furniture, safety gear, promotional signage, environmental protection programs, heritage projects, events, and festivals.

Council promotes funding opportunities twice a year and hosts drop-in sessions across the Shire so potential grant applicants have all the support they need to submit their application.

Please monitor our social media and local media outlets for information about upcoming grants.

We can also place you on a database for people wanting to be kept informed of what's happening with the Community Partnership Program.

Application evaluation

Grants are considered for initiatives by eligible community groups that meet the objectives of the Southern Grampians Shire Council Community Partnership Grants Policy.(PDF, 178KB)

Applications are evaluated and assessed against the criteria contained in the Southern Grampians Shire Council Community Partnership Grants Program Guidelines.(DOCX, 121KB)

The guidelines provide valuable information that will assist you in understanding Council's grant program. 

Tell us how your grant was used

After you have completed your project, you must tell us how you spent the grant money and what the outcomes of the project were. This is known as an acquittal process, acquitting is a mandatory part of all Southern Grampians Shire Council Community Partnership Grants.

You can access the acquittal form via the SmartyGrants Portal here. Your Acquittal Report must be completed within 60 days after the conclusion of the project/event.

How to access the acquittal form.

  1. Login to SmartyGrants.
  2. Log in using the 'Login' section using the email address and password you used when you first registered to complete the online grant application form.
  3. If you have forgotten your password, click on 'Forgotten your password?' link and enter your email address. You will be emailed a link which will allow you to create a new password.
  4. At the top of the page, click 'My Submissions' tab
  5. Open and complete the acquittal form for the relevant grant
  6. Don't forget to submit the acquittal form

Sustainability Schools Competition

Let's get our Eco Warrior On!

The Southern Grampians Shire Council Sustainability Competition has been created to support schools within our Shire tackle issues in the areas of Sustainability and Circular Economy. The competition will provide students the opportunity to submit innovative solutions to current real-world issues affecting our region and will be run from July 2024.

Teams will be required to submit proposals and present their idea to a selection panel, the winning team receiving Council’s commitment to fund and implement their project (up to $20,000).

Who can enter?

The competition will be aimed at years 7 - 10 students at all schools within the Southern Grampians Shire. Each school may submit a total of three project submissions. The winning team will have their project implemented, and all participants will receive special recognition.

Teams will be required to complete the online application form, and have the option to deliver a presentation to a panel at the Presentation Event, or upload a video presentation.

The winning team will work alongside Council, local businesses, industry partners or external agencies where appropriate to implement their project.

Submissions

Submissions are open from 15 July 2024, closing 4:00pm, 20 September 2024.

Terms and Conditions

  • School must be based within Southern Grampians Shire boundary.
  • Schools may submit a total of three submissions.
  • Schools must hold adequate public liability insurance policy to cover the staff, students and public.
  • Council will not fund fundraising activities.
  • Council will not fund activities / projects that have already started and /or need retrospective funding.
  • Council will not fund items that are part of a schools normal operating expenses eg. Salaries, insurances, utilities. Please ask if you are unsure.
  • Council will consider ongoing financial requirement for all the ideas as part of the evaluation.
  • Submissions will be assessed by an independent panel, and scored against set-criteria. The successful school, and special achievement awards will be presented at the Presentation Event.
  • Total project cost may not exceed $20,000 (exc GST).
  • The project implementation needs to be achievable by Council within a 6 to 12 month timeframe.

Evaluation

The selection panel will evaluate school's entries on innovation, feasibility, implementation and alignment.
