Grampians Peaks Trail: An Event Backdrop Like No Other
The Grampians Peaks Trail (GPT) stands as a defining experience for trail running and endurance events in Victoria. Spanning 162km through Gariwerd (Grampians National Park), the trail links Mt Zero in the north to Dunkeld in the south, tracing ancient mountain ridgelines and open woodland. With 7,700 metres of elevation, event participants navigate rocky escarpments, sheltered gullies and sweeping vistas unique to this landscape.
Whether planning a major trail race, a multi-day endurance challenge, or an adventure-based corporate retreat, the GPT offers a setting that tests skill and rewards resilience. The trail's varied conditions and distinctive natural features make it an ideal stage for memorable, challenging events set against the region's most dramatic scenery.
On the tail end of the GPT100 Miler, on Sunday 9th November will be the Dunkeld Junior and Family Trail Races, this event is a collaborative effort between SingleTrack Events, Peaks and Trails organisers and volunteers. Dunkeld, with its population of just over 600, sits at the foot of Mount Sturgeon/Wurgarri and offers views of Mt Abrupt/Mud-Dadjug—a striking backdrop for both competitors and visitors. Known for its spirit of adventure and its reputation for outstanding food, Dunkeld’s main street is lined with thriving local businesses, making it an inviting place to stay and experience the culture and hospitality of the Southern Grampians.
