Southern Grampians Outdoor Swimming Season to Begin

The outdoor swimming season is here with the Hamilton Outdoor Swimming Pool open from Saturday 7 November 2026 (weather permitting) with Balmoral, Coleraine, Dunkeld and Penshurst to follow at the start of December.
Early morning swims are also back for Hamilton, offered on Mondays and Thursdays each week between 6:00am – 9:00am. Pool entry is free for all users.
Southern Grampians Shire Council Mayor Dennis Heslin said Council’s outdoor swimming pools support families and residents of all ages to beat the summer heat.
“We’re incredibly lucky within the Southern Grampians to have access to such great outdoor facilities with an outdoor pool located not too far from all residents,” said Cr Heslin.
“In what is being predicted to be a warm summer, having the opportunity to cool off, socialise in a safe space with free access for all is an important service Council operates across the season.
“We are still recruiting lifeguards for Balmoral, Coleraine and Penshurst so if you have the relevant skills – or are working to attain them, please reach out to Council and have a conversation about how you can join the team.”
Pools will open daily between 3:00pm to 7:00pm from December until the last weekend in March with Hamilton opening earlier from the start of November.
On weekends and throughout January, pools will open between 12:00pm to 7:00pm if the Bureau of Meteorology’s forecast issued at 4:00pm the day prior predicts an air temperature above 35 degrees Celsius.
Outdoor pools will be closed if the Bureau of Meteorology’s forecast issued at 4:00pm the day prior predicts an air temperature below 23 degrees Celsius.
“We look forward to getting outdoor pool season underway for everyone to enjoy,” Cr Heslin concluded.
Preparations to open Glenthompson Pool continue under the management of the Glenthompson Pool Committee for the upcoming season. Council will share opening details via Council's Facebook page once the Committee releases them.
