The twinkling fairy lights of Gray Street, Hamilton are becoming a permanent fixture of the CBD due to overwhelming community support.
Southern Grampians Shire Council installed the lights to celebrate the festive season, with the public showing their joy at the much-desired addition to Gray Street. The Hamilton CBD was bustling with activity over the Christmas period, and now a little bit of cheer can be enjoyed all-year round.
Mayor Cr David Robertson said he was delighted that residents and visitors alike were happy with the light installation, so much so that they were staying as a permanent CBD fixture.
“Council has been overwhelmed with support and community feedback regarding the fairy light installation during the festive period,” said Cr Robertson. “They really brought much seasonal cheer to those who were wandering the Hamilton CBD and taking in the Christmas atmosphere. The decision has been made to keep the lights in-place permanently, as they are clearly bringing everyone a lot of happiness.”
The Christmas fairy lights were turned on in October 2023 with a celebration to herald the beginning of the festive season.
“Council thanks all the businesses involved who assisted in many ways, to enable these fairy lights to become a reality. It takes a village, and we feel that this is the perfect example of communities working together. As the days get shorter, the lights will turn on earlier, so it is a lovely addition to the Hamilton CBD all-year round,” concluded Cr Robertson.
