Published on 06 June 2025
Southern Grampians Shire Council and local not for profit, Better Together Inc invite the community to celebrate the official opening of new all-abilities playground equipment at Lake Hamilton’s Lakes Edge Adventure Playground.
Join us at 10.00am on Saturday 14 June for a morning of celebration, with guest speakers, roving entertainers, facepainting and hopefully a splash of sunshine!
This milestone event marks the completion of a meaningful community collaboration, designed to enhance play opportunities for children of all abilities and create a more inclusive community space for families across the Shire.
The new equipment includes a Sway-Fun Glider – a wheelchair-accessible play experience, and an Inclusive Carousel designed to allow children of all abilities to play side-by-side.
Southern Grampians Shire Council Mayor Dennis Heslin praised the collaborative approach, saying the project reflects the strength of community partnerships.
“This is a fabulous gift to our community that will make a real difference in people’s lives,” Cr Heslin said.
“We were delighted to support Better Together Inc in realising their vision of a connected, inclusive community. Please join us for the official opening with entertainment, speakers and a fantastic new playground for everyone to enjoy.”
These additions were made possible thanks to the fundraising efforts of Better Together Inc, a Hamilton-based not-for-profit focused on disability inclusion and visibility. Through their annual Better Together Festival, the group raised funds to purchase the inclusive equipment, with Council providing the earthworks, installation, and ongoing maintenance to bring the project to life.
Janette Gilding from the Better Together Festival committee said seeing the project completed is deeply rewarding.
“All-access equipment takes time and specialised installation, so it’s incredibly rewarding to be at the finish line,” she said.
“The support we’ve received from across the Shire has been overwhelming. To everyone who donated, encouraged us, or championed the cause — thank you.”
