From groovy conversation pits to wildly winding staircases, decadent decks to lavish libraries, comedian, host, writer and design guru Tim Ross unpacks Australia’s housing obsession in a one-night-only live event in Hamilton.
Hamilton Library are delighted to welcome beloved Aussie voice Tim Ross to perform a one-of-a-kind live performance of his acclaimed live show, The Australian Dream? at 7:00pm on Thursday 9 October at the Hamilton Cinema.
More than just a talk, Tim will take you through an immersive evening of storytelling, cinema and ingenious insight as he takes a dive into Australia’s deep and sometimes complicated love affair with the idea of home ownership. A lifelong design and architecture afficionado, he uses a blend of wit, warmth and hard research to bring an unlikely story to life.
“We are so pleased to have secured Tim,” said Hamilton Library Services Senior Coordinator Kelly Pitt-Lancaster.
“He’s an extraordinary storyteller with the power to make very big stories feel intimate and relatable. His perspective on housing and living spaces is fresh, funny and utterly fascinating. We all loved him as half of Merrick and Rosso and we’re very excited to see him perform in person.”
Developed over 18 months of ambitious research and supported by a selection of new cinematic films produced specifically for this project, The Australian Dream? explores how the humble goal of owning a home transformed into one of the biggest challenges facing modern Australians.
Join us as we explore the tangles of modern home ownership, something that has gone from rite of passage to unattainable idea and listen as Tim asks what we can learn from the past to help solve the problems of the future.
The Australian Dream? is presented in partnership with the National Library of Australia, State Library of Queensland, State Library Victoria, State Library of New South Wales and State Library of Western Australia.
The Australian Dream? tour is largely showing in major regional cities, making this is a unique chance for our community to see a show designed for large crowds in a local environment.
The event will take place from 7:00pm to 8:15pm on Thursday 9 October 2025, at the Hamilton Cinema. This event is for over 18’s only.
Please note that this event is free, but that bookings are required. Book your place here.
