Southern Grampians Shire Council Completes Road Reseal Program
Published on 05 May 2025
Southern Grampians Shire Council has completed the 2024/2025 roads resealing program covering approximately 67kms across the region, the equivalent of sealing from Hamilton to Wickliffe with a four-metre width.
This work has included:
- Road Reseal Program: 113 roads resealed marking a significant achievement in maintaining Southern Grampians road network.
- Road Rehabilitation: Three major road rehabilitation projects at Victoria Point Road, Gallie Road and Hamilton Chatsworth Road have been finalised, ensuring safer and smoother journeys for residents and visitors.
- Gravel Road Resheets: Five gravel road resheeting projects at Krumnow Lane Penshurst, N Minus Road Warryure, Skene Homestead Road and a section of Old Ararat Road have been complete with Kurtzes Road progressing well.
Southern Grampians Shire Council Mayor Dennis Heslin said this year’s Capital Works roads program included a trial using crumbed rubber which has been able to reduce carbon footprints by 60%.
“This innovative approach has been used on Hensley Park Road, Hamilton Livestock Exchange Car Park and Monivae Street Hamilton.
“In addition to completing the roads programs, we have also seen the installation of the Hamilton pump track, Melville Oval Redevelopment Project, landscaping for Cox Street, and the configuration of the new road layout for Market Place,” said Cr Heslin.
“By making changes and completing projects like these, we continue to strengthen the foundations of our shire and ensure it remains a great place to live, work, and visit.”
Council staff also provided vital support during the recent bushfire emergency to our community including the delivery of approximately seven megalitres (550 truckloads) of water to fire-affected residents.
“Looking ahead as we transition into maintenance mode over the coming months, our graders are actively addressing gravel road maintenance across the Shire, simultaneously, planning is well underway for next year’s capital works program.
“These projects are more than just works on a list - they represent progress, resilience, and our shared vision for our Shire completed by dedicated staff,” Cr Heslin concluded.
