North Boundary Road Intersection Works Set to Commence
Published on 28 May 2025
Southern Grampians Shire Council continues to show its commitment to improving local roads by investing in significant upgrades to the intersection at North Boundary Road and Hensley Park Road.
The upgrade, expected to take approximately four to five weeks starting Monday 2 June, will see a replacement intersection constructed where North Boundary Road meets Hensley Park Road.
Southern Grampians Shire Council Mayor Dennis Heslin said this upgrade is a vital investment in the safety and functionality of our local road network.
“This particular intersection has seen an increase in heavy vehicle use and unfortunately this has raised safety concerns for the through traffic,” said Cr Heslin.
“In addition, the corner is often "cut" when entering North Boundary Road with traffic entering the wrong side of the road at significant speed, creating dangerous road conditions.
“The new design will see the inclusion of a splitter island to define the lane separation and force vehicles to approach the intersection and enter it at safer speeds reducing the safety risk to all road users.”
To minimise disruption, a Traffic Management Plan has been put in place:
- Intersection Closure: The North Boundary Road intersection will be closed to traffic from 6:30am to 3:00pm daily during construction.
- Hensley Park Road Access: One lane of Hensley Park Road will remain open throughout most of the works to allow continued access. A full closure will be needed for one day only, towards the end of the project. Community will be notified once that date has been confirmed.
Detour routes will be clearly marked and communicated to ensure a smooth journey for commuters and residents. Heavy Vehicles are advised to avoid the area and seek an alternate route. A copy of the detailed Traffic Management Plan is available on the Southern Grampians Shire website.
Works are expected to be completed by the end of June, weather permitting. Please take care when driving in the area and obey any speed or detour signage in place.
“This project represents Councils ongoing commitment to improving road safety and ensuring the wellbeing of all road users, whether they’re behind the wheel, on foot, or cycling through our region.
“We appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation while we complete these works and look forward to delivering an improved intersection that benefits everyone who travels this busy section of road,” concluded Cr Heslin.
