Southern Grampians Shire Council would like to advise residents that recent water quality testing at both Wannon Falls (Wannon Falls Scenic Reserve) and Nigretta Falls (Nigretta Falls Scenic Reserve) has identified acceptable coliform and E.Coli levels for recreational water contact in accordance with Environment Protection Act 2027 Environment Reference Standards.
The previous alert issued in March has now been lifted, with warning signage at both locations removed.
Southern Grampians Shire Council Director Wellbeing, Planning and Regulation, Rory Neeson reminded residents that while the alerts had been lifted, swimming at the Wannon River and Nigretta River Reserves was not recommended.
“Council would like to thank everyone for abiding by relevant safety messages during this time and reminds residents swimming is not advised at either of these locations as they are not safe or dedicated swimming areas,” said Mr Neeson.
“Council will continue to monitor these locations over the coming months to ensure the health and safety of the community remains a priority,” concluded Mr Neeson.
