Councillors to Visit Outer Townships for Community Conversations
Published on 17 March 2026
This year, Southern Grampians Shire Council is bringing local government directly to the communities it serves, with the Around the Towns with Council community conversations series rolling out across the Shire.
The first stop will be Byaduk on Tuesday 31 March at 6:00pm at the Byaduk Recreation Reserve, with everyone in town encouraged to attend.
Once a month throughout the year, elected councillors and Council staff will travel to a different township across the Shire, hosting informal, face-to-face sessions that are open to any topic, any concern, and any idea.
Southern Grampians Shire Council Deputy Mayor Cr Helen Henry encouraged everyone to get involved with their township session.
“Your Council is your most accessible form of government, so if there are issues you want us to tackle, or things you’d like addressed on behalf of your community, we would love to hear what you have to say and discuss what we can do to help.
“These sessions are deliberately informal. There’s no fixed agenda, no registration required, and no topic off the table. Residents are encouraged to bring ideas, raise concerns, ask questions, or simply come along to meet their elected representatives and the Council staff who support them every day,” Cr Henry said.
A community BBQ will be provided in Byaduk, creating a Neighbours Night-style gathering for locals to connect and chat with councillors.
Upcoming Around the Towns visits include:
- Tuesday 31 March – Byaduk
- Tuesday 28 April – Branxholme
- Tuesday 26 May – Dunkeld
- Tuesday 23 June – Glenthompson
Further dates, towns and details will be shared via the Council website and social media channels as each date approaches.
