Southern Grampians Shire Council is inviting local businesses to take part in a region-wide survey aimed at better understanding the challenges, opportunities and future outlook of the local business community.

Under pressure from the ongoing fuel crisis, external economic pressures and following years of drought, the survey results will play a key role in shaping how Council supports businesses across the Shire.

Southern Grampians Shire Council Mayor Cr Dennis Heslin said every response would help build a clearer picture of local business needs.

“Our region is home to a diverse and diligent business community, from retail and hospitality to agriculture, trades and industry,” Cr Heslin said.

“We know the past few years haven’t been easy. This survey is about understanding what businesses are facing right now, and what they need to grow and succeed into the future.

“It covers a range of topics including business performance, confidence in the region’s future, workforce and skills needs, supply chains and logistics, digital presence, and the impacts of drought.

“The more businesses that take part, the better our ability to advocate for and deliver meaningful support,” concluded Cr Heslin.

The survey opens on Monday 20 April 2026 and will close on Wednesday 20 May 2026.

Businesses can complete the survey online via the Engage with Us section of Council’s website or request a paper copy at the Brown Street Customer Service Centre.

All responses are confidential, with results reported only in summary form. The survey takes approximately 8–10 minutes to complete.

Insights gathered will directly inform Council programs, advocacy efforts and future planning, ensuring support is targeted where it’s needed most.

Council encourages all local business owners and operators to take part and help shape the future of business in the Southern Grampians.
