Council Funds Back Local Ideas

Southern Grampians Shire Council has approved more than $108,000 in funding for local projects, events and initiatives through its Community Partnership Grants program.

Endorsed at last night’s Council meeting, the funding will support 34 projects across the Shire: ranging from major upgrades to small but meaningful community improvements.

Seven larger projects will share more than $43,000, while 27 smaller initiatives will receive a combined $65,500.

The Community Partnership Grants program helps bring new ideas to life and supports projects that build strong, connected and resilient communities.

Southern Grampians Shire Council Mayor Dennis Heslin said the program highlights the passion and effort of local people.

“These grants back the people who are out there making things happen in their communities,” Cr Heslin said.

“What stands out this year is the range. From significant upgrades through to small projects that will make a real day-to-day difference.

“We’ve had big ticket items like the renewal and revitalisation of the points arboretum, essential works to the Henry Leech RSL room in Sterling Place, Dunkeld and a Respectful Relationships Primary Teacher Workshop for the Rotary Club of Hamilton.

“We’ve also had a huge turnout for modest grants like the Schoolies Market at HIRL, sound equipment for the Penshurst Ukelele Players, playground soft fall for the Pigeon Ponds Rec. Reserve, work to be carried out on the heritage blacksmith shop in Coleraine and new tables for the Branxholme Public Hall Reserve.

“Behind every application is someone putting their hand up for their community, often in their own time.

“This funding is just one way Council is able to support that effort and help people turn good ideas into something real.”

Applications are assessed against clear criteria and must align with Council’s strategic priorities, including the Council Plan 2025–2029 and Health and Wellbeing Plan. Round One for 2026/27 will open in June with more information to come.
