Katrina is still working as a veterinary surgeon and has established a family farm with her husband Brian Ball, operating on properties near Cavendish and a small finishing block in Glenelg Shire.
Having served previously as a councillor on West Wimmera Shire, Katrina has been elected to Southern Grampians seven times since 2004, most recently with a strong endorsement by the community.
Katrina was identified as woman with rural leadership potential in 1995 with a Telstra ABC Rural Women’s award for Western Victoria. With qualifications and experience in Quality Assurance, Auditing and Flock and Herd Health management, Katrina has balanced a long professional career in mixed veterinary practice with the life on the land she loves, raising four children with enormous support from husband Brian. Moving to Southern Grampians to educate their four children and relocate their farming business has been rewarding. The boys are all engineers designing cars or mining gold, their fourth child is undertaking her PhD in Anthropology with a climate change and rural community perspective.
Katrina's platform for re-election embraced a vision to build confidence in our Southern Grampians Shire Council, to help create a hardworking council team, transparent, responsive, caring for our community and country, planning for growth of the whole Shire of Southern Grampians. Spending ratepayers money wisely and increasing State and Federal Investment in our Shire.
Katrina continues42 to lobby for the return of passenger rail, this term Katrina has chaired the Hamilton Showgrounds Advisory Committee, the Hamilton Regional Livestock Exchange, serves on the Planning Committee, is the current MAV representative, the Rail Freight Alliance delegate and served on the Glenthompson Community Plan committee.
