Responsible for Executive and Councillor Support, Civic Functions and Governance.


Michael has been in this role since March 2016, with a distinguished career to date in local government, state government and the private sector, starting his working life in banking. Areas of strength Michael brings to the Southern Grampians Shire include economic development, population attraction and urban development. Coming most recently from outer Melbourne’s growth areas, Michael has significant experience and success in advocacy and investment into community and business assets and services including transport, business incubators, community and recreation facilities.

Having had a history in State Government, Michael brings a deep understanding in the State and Federal departmental ‘machines’ along with significant networks including solid relationships with key Administrators, Advisors, Ministers and Members of Parliament at both levels. With over 10 years in the private sector, he also brings a business approach to Council. A significant strength is the development and nurturing of relationships at local, regional and broader levels and he is well respected in these areas of influence.

Michael embeds himself within communities, being a long serving volunteer, active service club member and keen cyclist to keep fit, healthy and sharp. Michael is heavily involved in local community governance, is a Fellow with the Institute of Company Directors (FAICD), an Australian Certified Economic Developer (ACEcD) and was also recognised in 2011 Queen’s Birthday National Honours with an Australian Fire Service Medal (AFSM) for his contribution to Australian Fire Services
