Five Ways | Intersection of Hamilton-Chatsworth Rd, Blackwood-Dunkeld Rd and Woolsthorpe Rd, Penshurst

The Federal Government’s Black Spot Program, will address serious road safety issues at the intersection of Hamilton-Chatsworth Rd, Blackwood-Dunkeld Rd and Woolsthorpe Rd at Penshurst, also known as five-ways, with the construction of a Staggered T intersection and other improvements.

Road crashes impact upon Australians every year. The Black Spot program targets those road locations where crashes occur. The emphasis of this program is to reduce the number of crashes and the level of severity when crashes occur.

Improvements at the five-ways intersection will include:

  • Construction of a Staggered T intersection
  • Alter existing vertical alignment of all approaches to improve visibility of oncoming traffic
  • Construction of concrete traffic islands on major approaches
  • Reinforced priority signs at intersection
  • Advanced warning signage on approaches with flashing lights

Works, which will be undertaken by Council’s Works Department and are scheduled to begin 20 February 2017. The works are expected to be completed by late May 2017 (subject to weather conditions). The total cost of this project is $934,000 which is fully funded by the Federal Government under its Black Spot Program.

Traffic control and speed restrictions will be in place for the duration of the works with parts of the road being closed intermittently over the construction period. Council expects significant delays around this intersection while this essential project is delivered. Motorists are requested to drive to the speed limits and be mindful of construction worker when travelling through the site. Council recommends that motorists plan their journey to allow for extra travel time and where possible consider alternative routes for the duration of the works.
