About town planning
Town planning relates to the use and development of land under the provisions of the Southern Grampians Shire Planning Scheme and the Planning and Environment Act 1987.
The Southern Grampians Shire Planning Scheme includes state and local planning policies and guidelines, as well as zone and overlay maps of the Shire. It specifies which uses of land, or buildings and developments of land, require a planning permit.

Our Planning Team
Our Planning Team offers advice on town planning and planning permit applications across the Shire. We are required to assess each planning application in accordance with the Planning and Environment Act 1987, the Southern Grampians Shire Planning Scheme and any other relevant government policies.
Sustainable planning
Council looks to the future to ensure planning and development is done in a sustainable and meaningful manner taking all issues into account.
Our long-term planning includes encouraging quality urban design and protecting and enhancing the Shire's environmental assets and high-quality agricultural land, now and into the future.
