Hamilton Industrial Land Development

Background

Building on the vision of the Hamilton Structure Plan, the Hamilton Industrial Land Development will be a well-connected and well-serviced location for small and medium-scale industrial development and will enhance the appearance of Hamilton’s southern gateway entry.

The key features of the precinct are its positioning on the southern gateway to the city of Hamilton, proximity to the Hamilton Saleyards and access to heavy vehicle routes and industrial trunk infrastructure. The Hamilton Saleyards triangle is located at the centre of the precinct. To the west, the large parcel of grazing land is currently used by Saleyards and this use is to be retained.

The precinct also forms a critical link for north-south bound traffic to/from the Hamilton Central Activity District and east-west bound traffic to/from Hamilton’s southern industrial, rural activity and residential precincts.

Overview

To build on existing land use and opportunities creating a cohesive framework for future development. Key features include:
• Encouraging variation in types of industrial development
• Establishing a heavy vehicle hub
• Better manage existing land use in south eastern corner
• Improving the landscape treatment along Henty Highway
• Establish a Design and Development Overlay
• Strategically add through roads to allow for coordinated sub-division
• Upgrade lighting along Portland Road

Council Briefing – March 2019
Detailed Design Review – March 2019

Boundary Drainage – April 2019
Early Works Mobilisation – April 2019
Project Completion – October 2019

Current Status

Detailed Design review has been carried out. Revised Detailed Design has been received from Lake and Land and is under review by SGSC. Early works for boundary drainage to commence next month. Adjoining property owners have been updated and the lease for grazing has been terminated.
