Charges

Your rates comprise of a number of charges:

The General Charge

This is applied uniformly and calculated as cents in the dollar of Capital Improved Value (CIV). For 2017/2018:

  • The differential general rate is 0.5385 percent on all rateable land in the parishes of North Hamilton and South Hamilton excluding farm land
  • The differential general rate is 0.4308 percent in all rateable farm land in the parishes of North Hamilton and South Hamilton
  • The differential general rate is 0.4308 percent on all other rateable land in the Shire

A Municipal Charge

This contributes towards the administrative costs of running the Council. This charge is $192 for 2017/2018.

A Kerbside Service Charge

This is for the Kerbside collection and disposal of refuse (general waste and recycling) in designated townships and along collection routes. For 2017/2018 the charge is $257 for the Balmoral, Byaduk, Byaduk North, Coleraine, Dunkeld, Glenthompson, Hamilton, Tarrington and Penshurst urban areas.

A Kerbside collection and disposal service of refuse for Branxholme, the areas immediately north and east of Hamilton and for residential properties within Tarrington and its immediate surrounds as defined within the “refuse collection area” has become compulsory. For 2017/2018 the service charge for these areas will be $427 where the service has not previously been provided.

An Organic Waste Charge

This is an elective service for collection and disposal of organic waste in the townships of Hamilton and Tarrington. This charge is $93 for 2017/2018.

A Special Rate (YDA)

A special rate of 0.0425 percent of each dollar of the Capital Improved Value be made on all rateable land within the Yatchaw Drainage Area.
