Hair and Beauty Premises

All hair and beauty-related businesses must be registered with Council and comply with the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008 and Regulations and Council’s Community Local Law No.1 of 2015.

To ensure correct hygiene and safe practices Environmental Health Officers regularly inspect health premises.

Hair and Beauty premises include

  • Hairdressing salons (including mobile operators)
  • Beauty salons/parlours
  • Manicure/pedicure salons
  • Hair removal (electrolysis and waxing)
  • Tattooing (including permanent or semi-permanent make-up)
  • Body piercing
  • Colonic irrigation
  • Any other businesses involving penetration of the skin (i.e. microdermabrasion)

Home-based businesses

If you are planning to operate your Hair or Beauty premises from home it is important to keep your customers safe.

You must also ensure that the private dwelling is provided with the necessary services of water, waste disposal, light, equipment, fixtures, ventilation, cleaning and personal hygiene facilities, storage space and access to toilets.
