The Australian Esports League (AEL) will also bring their highly anticipated Esports Cup to Hamilton with competitions and free play scheduled across Saturday and Sunday 28 -29 May 2022.

This will be the first time AEL will host an Esports event in Western Victoria which will be accessible to all with live streaming and broadcasting online to an audience of up to 20,000.

Southern Grampians Shire Council Mayor Cr Bruach Colliton said Council are thrilled the DigiHub and Esports Cup events are almost here.

“We are excited that the much-anticipated DigiHub and Greater Hamilton Esports Cup is finally here after the original events unfortunately had to be rescheduled last year due to COVID-19,” said Cr Colliton.

“Young people across the Greater Hamilton region have been really vocal in telling us what type of activities they would like to participate in within our region so it’s great to finally see these digital activities become available right here in Hamilton for our community to enjoy.

“Council remain committed to doing more to support young people and to provide access to a range of non-traditional events. We can’t wait to see everyone get behind these activities, learn, have a go at something new, have some fun and see where digital opportunities might take you,” Cr Colliton concluded.

The Esports tournament will feature popular games including Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Minecraft, Just Dance 2022, Halo, Rocket League and Mario Kart 8 plus there will be a drop-in free play zone open to everyone across the three days who want to get involved.

Saturday will see competitors of all ages battling it out in the open challenge in Super Smash Bro’s Ultimate (SSBU) and Mario Kart with Sunday reserved for High School students to compete, with the best presented with awards at the day’s end. The total prize pool on offer is valued at $1,225 and includes cash prizes as well as gaming accessories.

Players will be able to try out all the latest gaming gear and spectators can also be a part of the action with professional shoutcasters commentating the activities as they happen.

Internationally award-winning Cosplayer @vyecos will also be available for meet and greets on Saturday and Sunday from 11:00am. This event is been supported by Southern Grampians Shire Council, FReeZA, and WDHS.
