Southern Grampians Shire will provide up to 57 new positions to local workers, after funding was received through the State Government’s $500 million Working for Victoria initiative.
The positions are fixed term for six months across a variety of Council functions including cleaning and sanitation, home and community care, town maintenance, waste management, community outreach support, and environmental management.
Southern Grampians Shire Council is one of 28 Councils across the State who have reached agreement with the State Government to engage those who are unemployed as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
Southern Grampians Shire Council Mayor, Cr Chris Sharples said this is a wonderful opportunity for our region and our residents.
“We know that there are many local people that have found themselves out of work due to the COVID-19 pandemic and there are a lot of people and families facing financial hardship,” said Cr Sharples.
“Our priority is to look after the Greater Hamilton community at this time and one way we can help is to have local people working for Southern Grampians Shire Council.
“Positions will be available to residents across the shire, in a variety of Council departments. This is a fantastic opportunity for community members who may have been stood down from their positions due to the COVID-19 pandemic to join the team here Council, and undertake important work in our community, to help us all move forward together and come out stronger on the other side,” Cr Sharples continued.
The $500 million Working for Victoria program is matching people who have lost their job due to the economic impacts of coronavirus with employers who need staff.
Interested residents are encouraged to apply for the positions by visiting the Working for Victoria website and registering on the Sidekicker platform (a subsidiary of SEEK). To be eligible to apply you must be legally able to work in Victoria, and are either unemployed or have recently experienced a significant reduction in income.
