Southern Grampians Shire Council Mayor Shire Mayor Cr Mary-Ann Brown said the funding would deliver much needed improvements for local motorists, farmers and visitors to the region.
“Successfully receiving funding in the second round of this valuable program is fantastic news for the Southern Grampians Shire,” Cr Brown said.
“The roads funded are frequented by commuters, farming equipment and commercial vehicles. Mill Road in particular, is a high-use alternative route between Dunkeld and Hamilton, so there is an identified need to increase the resilience of these important links in our road networks. We are very pleased this need has been recognised by the State Government.
“Council has replaced 13 culverts in the last three years, and had identified and additional five culverts across the shire in need of urgent replacement in a recent assessment. We are fortunate to have had all five funded through this program,” Cr Brown continued.
“The three major bridges funded are used to carry livestock and grain as well as commuters and commercial vehicles. Their replacement will improve safety for all users for many years into the future.
“We thank the State Government for their investment into these critical local roads and bridges projects and acknowledge the great working relationship with Regional Roads Victoria in delivering on these priorities,” Cr Brown concluded.
