Community members are invited to attend a special presentation by University of Melbourne Horticultural expert Dr Greg Moore right here in the Southern Grampians.
Dr Moore is a currently a Senior Research Associate of Burnley College at the University of Melbourne and prior was Principal of Burnley College of the Institute of Land Food Resources at Melbourne University from 1988 to 2007. He has been a member of the National Trust of Victoria’s Register of Significant Trees since 1988 and committee chair since 1996. Greg has been on the Board of Greening Australia (Victoria) since 1989. Dr Moore was awarded an OAM in 2017 for services to the environment, particularly in arboriculture.
Apart from a general interest in horticultural plant science, revegetation and ecology, Dr Moore has a specific interest in all aspects of arboriculture and has contributed to the development of Australian Standards in pruning and amenity tree evaluation. He was the inaugural president of the International Society of Arboriculture, Australian Chapter and has been a regular on Melbourne radio, particularly with ABC 774 and 3AW.
Between 1:00pm – 3:00pm Tuesday 26 July 2022, residents will have the opportunity to hear insights into all things horticultural, revegetation, ecology and arboriculture particularly within our public spaces.
Southern Grampians Shire Council Acting Mayor David Robertson said Council is pleased to partner with the Friends of the Hamilton Botanic Gardens to provide unique access to Dr Moore for locals with a keen interest in our natural environment.
“We are really thrilled to host Dr Moore right here in the Southern Grampians given his expertise, passion and knowledge,” said Cr Robertson.
“Residents will be able to attend the presentation in person and will have the opportunity to ask Dr Moore their horticultural questions. The event will be hosted at Hamilton Institute of Rural Learning (HIRL) which is really fitting given the venue’s natural connection to the Southern Grampians region.
“Dr Moore will also share his insights with Council staff working across our parks and gardens teams, providing them with the opportunity to discuss trees in our own public spaces and streetscapes. We can’t wait to have him here in person to learn from one of the best.”
“Light refreshments and afternoon tea will be provided after the presentation so we encourage community members young and old interested in our natural environment to register and come along for what will be a unique and highly informative experience,” concluded Cr Robertson.
