Celebrating National Reconciliation Week With Special Performance

4 May 2022

Southern Grampians Shire Council will be kicking off National Reconciliation Week early this year with a highly anticipated performance by proud Mutti Mutti, Yorta Yorta and Nari Nari man, Kutcha Edwards at the Hamilton Performing Arts Centre (HPAC).

The performance will be held on Friday 20 May 2022 from 7:30pm and will explore Kutcha’s life through original songs and stories with themes of country, birth, youth, politics, love, culture, healing and hope.

Southern Grampians Shire Council Mayor Bruach Colliton encourages residents to come along to the performance and reflect upon our national history.

“It’s such a privilege to have Kutcha’s talent right here in the Southern Grampians and is even more poignant given it will lead us into National Reconciliation Week,” said Cr Colliton.

“Council is pleased to be able to offer subsidised tickets for our community to Kutcha’s truth-telling show. For only $10 a ticket, you can bring your family and friends to experience a really unique, exciting and humbling show. Circling Time – Songs and Stories is a celebration of culture - deeply thoughtful music channelled from resilience. We encourage all residents to come along and share in this special event.

“National Reconciliation Week is really a time for all Australians to better educate themselves and learn more about our shared history, achievements and cultures. It’s a time for each of us to explore how we can, as individuals and collectively, contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

“This week provides an important opportunity for us all to reflect and hear stories from our First Nation’s People and also work towards strengthening the reconciliation process and relationships within the Southern Grampians.”

This years’ theme, “Be Brave. Make Change” is a challenge to all Australians – individuals, families, communities, organisations and government to be brave and tackle the unfinished business of reconciliation to make change for the benefit and harmony of all Australians.
