Hamilton has successfully attracted the Australian Blackball National Pool Championships to Hamilton for eight days of intensive competition. The event is scheduled to take place 15 – 22 May 2021.

The championships will see around 300 leading pool players from all over Australia competing in the Hamilton Exhibition and Conference Centre, showcasing their skills to live spectators and a worldwide live-streaming audience.

Although qualification for the event is still to take place, the field is likely to include some of Australia’s top pool players.

Players will compete across eight different sections: Men’s, Ladies’, Seniors’, Masters’ and the newly introduced sections for 2021, which will include Under 23, Under 18, learning difficulties and wheelchair sections.

Southern Grampians Shire Council is proud to support this event via its events attraction program, and looks forward to welcoming the Australian Blackball International Federation and its players to the Greater Hamilton region.

Quotes attributed to Southern Grampians Shire Council CEO – Michael Tudball:
“COVID-19 has impacted our community and our economy dramatically, so it’s important that we look ahead to when restrictions have hopefully eased enough for events like this to occur, to aid in our region’s recovery.”

“Attracting events like this to our excellent facilities not only injects money into the local economy, but improves Greater Hamilton’s reputation as a destination for similar events, and provides opportunities for the wider community to watch or participate in the sport.”

Quote attributed to Mark Cottingham, President, Australian Blackball International Federation:
“The Australian Blackball International Federation Committee are excited to be bringing this Championship to Hamilton. It will give our organisation the opportunity to re-invest in our players and the associated costs of international representation on behalf of Australia. We welcome any spectators in the region to come along and experience the week’s play and see the talented players we have in this country.”
