COVID-19 - Update from Council 6 April

From the CEO

As we head into our Easter break, we join the Prime Minister and State leaders in urging all our residents to please holiday at home this year.

Our Prime Minister has reiterated that holiday travel is considered non-essential and he has told Australians to cancel all non-essential travel. As hard as this is at this time of year, we ask that everyone does the right thing and follows this advice, for the good of our region and our country.

We know it is traditional for so many in our community to go camping and fishing with family and friends at this time of year. We know many have holiday homes along the river or frequent caravan park across the coast for the Easter break. This year, you need to stay at home.

And this doesn’t mean having everyone to your house for a BBQ and a get-together instead. Or inviting family from the city to our region for the long weekend. It means staying with your family, in your home and doing your bit to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

We know that COVID-19 is in our region and we need to ensure it does not take a significant hold. The only way we can do this is to continue doing the right thing. Washing our hands, maintaining social distancing and limiting our time outside our homes to essential activities only. Doing this ensures we protect ourselves, each other and our precious health resources.

Council will also be considering the current service and contact arrangements leading into Easter. Residents would be aware that the current arrangements are in place until close of business Tuesday April 14, 2020. This was aligned with the State of Emergency in Victoria which has been gazetted until midnight on Monday April 13, 2020. We expect that this will be lengthened and re-gazetted at some point this week.

We will communicate the ongoing Council arrangements through our media channels and in Saturday’s Hamilton Spectator along with our other media outlets.
