Works begins on Lake Hamilton Walking Track

2 May 2019

Southern Grampians Shire Council will commence works on the Lake Hamilton Walking Track from next week.

Works will include track improvements and re-sheeting to the existing track as well as the construction of additional path near the Lakes Edge Playground area.

Through the public consultation process for Council’s Lake Hamilton Masterplan and from listening to community feedback, Lake Hamilton has been recognised as one of the Shire’s most popular places for residents and visitors to visit and exercise.

To service this increasing demand, and with the success of Hamilton Parkrun, the need to improve and extend the track has been recognised and prioritised by Council. A 400 metre loop will be added to the track, in order to create the extra 800 metres required to bring the full Lake Hamilton track to a five kilometre circuit.

LK Earthmovers were the successful tenderer for the works which begin on Thursday 9 May. The works will take place during business hours only and will be completed in sections, beginning with the Southern end, from the spillway moving towards the Lakes Edge Playground.

The section of track being repaired will not be accessible for users during the hours of 8am and 4pm. As such, residents are advised that they will need to walk around the section of track being repaired or use the Lake track outside of these hours for the duration of the works. Full access will be available to the walking track outside business hours and on weekends, and residents are assured that the Mother’s Day Classic and Hamilton Parkrun will not be disrupted by the works.

Works are expected to be complete within two to three weeks, weather permitting.
