You're Invited - 2017 Greater Hamilton Events Forum

Community members across the Greater Hamilton region are invited to attend a free Events Forum being hosted by the Southern Grampians Shire Council on Friday 2 June 2017. The forum, to be held at the Sterling Place Community Centre in Dunkeld from 9am – 3pm, is an opportunity not to be missed for local event organisers, community groups, volunteers, businesses, service providers from across South West Victoria.

Attendees will learn from and be inspired by, a host of guest speakers sharing their experiences in planning, marketing, funding and developing events.

Pieter Badenhorst, President of the Music in the Vines festival in Macarthur, will share what he learned from starting up the annual event and relate this to a strategic approach all event organisers can take to planning and organising their events.

Caroline Moore, Program Director of Port Fairy Folk Festival, which just celebrated its 41st year, will share insights from her 25+ years of working in the industry, particularly in relation to handling growth and change. Caroline has a wealth of experience in directing and managing events including the Melbourne International Jazz Festival, Melbourne Fringe and Apollo Bay Music Festival and has produced shows for Melbourne International Comedy Festival and the Edinburgh Fringe.

Marketing specialist Mel Stewart, from HyperSocial, will discuss the social media marketing trends event organisers should be using to gain all-important engagement and event attendance; and Liz Mecham, experienced grant writer and event organiser, will shed light on different fundraising strategies event organisers can implement to finance their events and become financially sustainable.

The afternoon program will feature interactive break-out sessions to develop the skills of event organisers in regards to specific challenges like writing grant applications, succession planning and mastering Facebook.

Council’s Events Marketing and Development Officer, Stacey Barnes, will also share useful resources and information on how event organisers can seek Council support for their events.

Local providers offering products and services to the Events industry are also invited to attend, network and showcase their offerings.
