Outdoor Swimming Pools

Council's Operation of Outdoor Pools Policy outlines the service levels for the operations of Southern Grampians Community Pools.

Heated Pools are located in Hamilton, Balmoral, Coleraine and Dunkeld.
Unheated Pools are located in Glenthompson and Penshurst.

Pools will be opened from 3:00pm to 7:00pm seven days a week, with the following exceptions:-

Pools will be closed when the air temperature forecast by the Bureau of Meteorology at 4:00pm for the next day is less than:-
23 degrees Celsius for all unheated Pools.
21 degrees Celsius for all heated Pools.

All pools will open 12.00pm to 7:00pm when the when the air temperature forecast by the Bureau of Meteorology at 4:00pm for the next day is more than 35 degrees Celsius (Weekends and all of January only).

Note: The air temperature forecast by the Bureau of Meteorology will be specific to the location of the swimming pool.

Actual opening dates and closing dates will be communicated via the Shire Facebook page, the Southern Grampians Shire Outdoor Pools Facebook page, and closer to the date. This enables flexibility to accommodate for changing weather patterns.

Supervised early morning swimming from 6:00am - 9:00am (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) at the Hamilton Olympic Swimming Pool from the start of November until the last weekend in March.

Supervised early morning swimming is available in Coleraine from 6:00am - 7:00am (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) until the last weekend in March.

Outdoor pools will be closed on days rated as Code Catastrophic Fire Danger days.
