Prepare and get ready - flood and storm

Victoria State Emergency Service (SES) is the lead agency for flood and storm emergencies.

Flood warnings
Current warnings are issued by the Bureau of Meteorology.
These warning include floods, storms, severe weather (wind or rain).
VicEmergency includes alerts, information and advice for these events from SES and Bureau of Meteorology.

SES has information about flood warning systems.
The Glenelg River can have "Flood warnings" issued for minor, moderate and major floods .
Other streams in Southern Grampians Shire can have a "flood watch" issued that covers the South West weather district.

SES information about sandbags including a reference guide on how to fill, lay and place sandbags and a sandbagging demonstration video.
Sandbags can be purchased (empty) at hardware stores. Council does not supply sandbags.

Glenelg Hopkins Catchment Management Authority have specialist information and advice about riverine flooding.
Their Flood Portal provides flood level predictions from flood studies for Hamilton and Coleraine as well as limited data for some other areas. The mapping can be zoomed in to property level.
