Southern Grampians Shire Councillors and Council staff will have the chance to discuss ideas and concerns with next week with residents of Penshurst and Hamilton as Council’s listening post program rolls on.
Councillors, Senior Executives and Council staff took the mobile library to Coleraine and Balmoral townships this week to host the pop-up listening posts, with residents enjoying the opportunity to come out and have a casual conversation.
Southern Grampians Shire Council Mayor Mary-Ann Brown and staff were available to chat with residents about their concerns and ideas, with almost 40 community members giving feedback, sharing their ideas or reporting concerns.
“The listening posts are proving to be an effective way to reach out to residents, providing those who visit with direct access to Council staff and Councillors. Glenthompson was our first session on the back of the Council meeting and it proved very successful with almost 40 residents coming out to chat to us. They raised a range of issues from rubbish collection to community bus services, town signage and road maintenance.
“The mobile library has been an excellent way of getting out and about to engage with our outlying communities. We have Penshurst next week at 3pm and then a session in Hamilton, utilising a shopfront in the Hub, beginning at 3pm. We encourage everyone to come along and talk to us,” Cr Brown said.
Following next week’s sessions in Hamilton and Penshurst, there will two more listening posts in Tarrington and Dunkeld, which will follow on from the Council meeting and regularly scheduled engagement sessions in these townships.
