3x3 Basketball Action Comes to Hamilton

18 December 2017

It’s time to get excited as CLB3X3 BASKETBALL , HAMILTON BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION and the SOUTHERN GRAMPIANS SHIRE COUNCIL bring you 3 days of 3X3 action, slam dunks & 3 point shoot outs this summer…

From Friday 16 February to Sunday 18 February, athletes, spectators and families from all over the Greater Hamilton region will converge at Melville Oval to take part in the excitement of Champions League Basketball 3X3 competition (CLB3X3).

An event aimed at all ages and all abilities, CLB3X3 combines elite sport with grassroots to bring you a festival of 3X3 action along with food trucks, music and family amusements.

General Manager of Champions League Basketball Matt Hollard said CBL3X3 said the event has been travelling the country since 2014 with great success.

“We have been touring around Australia now since 2014, aligning ourselves with key community organisers, councils, event owners and local sporting organisations to provide Junior and Open basketball players with a 3X3 comp in a festive and safe environment for families to attend, free of charge.

“Councils and community stakeholders play a big part in what we do and we are very appreciative of the support we have received so far. We have seen a real growth over the last two years in 3X3 and now it is great to see a growth in the spectators that come and enjoy “the show” as well,” Hollard said.

Players can register to compete in a range of competitions over the weekend from a Corporate Cup held on the Friday from 6pm onwards, (a great way to network and keep fit) or as a Junior U13’s or U15’s player on the Saturday from 12pm onwards and lastly as an U18’s or Open player on the Sunday for their chance to win great prizes and world ranking points. Spectators are welcome to come along and enjoy the atmosphere and watch the rising talent come out on top during the Finals each day.

Southern Grampians Shire Council Mayor Mary-Ann Brown said Council is very pleased to welcome the 3X3 event to the Greater Hamilton region.

“We are really looking forward to seeing all of the community come out to participate in this exciting event. It’s something we’ve never seen here in our town before and a really great way to encourage people to be active with their family and friends. With the usual basketball tournament at HILAC not taking place till later in the year, this is great opportunity for our talented young people to have some fun and for those who may not have played before to learn some new skills as well”.

Carla Mayfield, President of the Hamilton Basketball Association is looking forward to hosting their first outdoor 3X3 event over the summer.

“The Hamilton Basketball Association is very excited to be involved in bringing this fun, family community 3X3 basketball event to Hamilton and the wider communities. Our goal is to generate an enjoyable weekend for all of our community and surrounding areas; including participation, spectating and a festival atmosphere.

“Players are required to set up their own profile via the www.play.fiba3x3.com and using the same website they can then register a team of 3-4 players for $90 per team. Simply search “Hamilton” to find our event,” Mayfield said.

Recently announced as the latest sport to be listed as an Olympic discipline for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, past, current and future basketball players now have another pathway in which they can play at a junior or elite level and even play for their country some day.
