Due to the 2016 flood event, many roads within the Southern Grampians Shire have temporary traffic management signs in place.
The locations where signage is in place have been identified as areas where flood damage has occurred to the road network. The damage type is wide and varied and could include the road surface, a bridge, a culvert or even erosion under the road. While the damage might not always be visible or look significant to a driver these are serious road defects that can impact on the safety and strength of our road network.
The recovery process will require the patience of the community and many sites will spend long periods controlled by safety signage whilst works are put to tender. Road users need to be mindful that safety signage is there for a purpose and drive with caution throughout the Southern Grampians and adjoining Councils.
