Council's Disability Parking Permits has moved to a new online application process - Accessible Parking Permit (APP) from 22 March 2021 as part of a State-wide change.
The APP Scheme will standardise permits to better align with the Australian Disability Parking Scheme (ADPS), making sure Victorian permits are recognised across the country.
Three permit types exist under the new APP Scheme:
An Australian Disability Parking (ADP) Permit
A Victorian Double Time Accessible Parking Permit
An Organisational ADP Permit
Changes included in the new scheme:
• Long-term permits are now valid for five years with short-term permits covering 6, 12 or 24 months.
• All current permit holders must undertake a medical assessment when they renew into the APP Scheme.
• Permit holders can now be assessed as having a permanent medical condition or disability and will no longer require medical assessments to renew permits.
General practitioners and occupational therapists will be responsible for assessing applicants with the label being sent from a central mailing centre to either the applicant or applicant’s council.
The double time (green permit) will remain under the new scheme, allowing people with limited mobility additional time to park for double the time in a regular parking space.
The blue permit will be renamed the Australian Disability Parking Permit, to align with the ADPS. The blue permit will allow people who’ve been assessed as needing additional space (such as wheelchair users), to park in a disability parking bay.
All existing permits will remain valid until their expiry date.
