Household and Farm Chemicals

No Transfer Station in the Southern Grampians Shire can accept toxic household and farm chemicals. However, there are government schemes in place for disposal of chemicals.

Household Chemicals

  • The Victorian government provides a free service for household chemical collection, "Detox Your Home". A mobile collection service is provided at various locations throughout the year.
  • Due to COVID-19 restrictions, all Detox Your Home collections have been cancelled for the remainder of 2020. Residents are advised to store their unwanted chemicals until the program resumes.

For details of mobile household chemical collections, permanent drop-off sites, details of what materials are accepted and further information on chemical disposal please contact Council on (03) 5573 0444 or visit Sustainability Victoria’s ‘Detox your Home’ Chemical Collection Program site using the links below.

Farm Chemicals

Unwanted agricultural and veterinary chemicals can be disposed of through the ChemClear program. You will need to register your chemicals with ChemClear prior to collection.

Contact ChemClear on (toll free) 1800 008 182 or register on the website below.

Asbestos

Southern Grampians Shire Council does not accept asbestos and will reject any waste suspected of containing asbestos.

Please contact an approved asbestos removal contractor in your local Yellow Pages.
