| The Southern Grampians Shire Council Logo is rich and detailed - full or symbols that represent both the breadth and the diversity of the region and its activities.
The central, dominant icon is a ram, representing the importance of the wool industry to the region's economy. The silhouette of the ram is formed by the other elements of the symbol.
Above the ram is the southern spur of the Grampians, a major landscape feature of the region. The view of Mt Abrupt and Mt Sturgeon is that seen by motorists on the Glenelg Highway.
Dawning above the Grampians is the sun, representing a new era of hope and renewal. Seen from the air, the rich pastures form a chequerboard. This landscape pattern creates the forequarters of the sheep.
Forming the underbelly and legs are the church spires and stencilled hands and representing the presence and culture of civilisations, old and new, within the landscape.
The hindquarters of the sheep are formed by water motifs - the sparkling waterfalls of the region transform into the rivers lined with redgums. | |
