Blue Green Algae Alert Lifted

17 March 2017

Southern Grampians Shire Council is pleased to advise that the alert on Blue Green Algae at Lake Hamilton has now been lifted.

Compliant laboratory reports over the last two weeks have returned satisfactory blue green algae cell count results and the scum that was the cause for concern has now subsided.

Lake Hamilton can now be used for recreation activities including swimming, sail boarding, water skiing, boating and fishing.

In the interests of public safety and in accordance with the Lake Hamilton Management Plan, Council’s Environmental Health Department will continue to monitor the lake’s water quality closely.

Signage warning of health risks will be removed from the lake foreshore over the coming week.
