Southern Grampians Shire Council is inviting the community to provide input into future local and shire-wide plans as part of the 2041 Community Vision Framework.
The Community Vision Framework 2041 (CVF2041) project is a Council-led initiative that seeks to create excitement and optimism within Council and the community about the future of the Southern Grampians Shire and the opportunities that can be realised.
CVF2041 seeks to develop a future vision beyond Council’s traditional responsibilities of “roads, rates and rubbish” by encouraging innovation by industry, the delivery of community led initiatives and the building of dynamic partnerships with others.
Andrew Goodsell, Council’s Director of Planning and Development said that Council recognises that community and industry’ wants and needs have changed significantly over time and they will continue to evolve. Additionally, technology and climate change may deliver a range of both opportunities and challenges for Southern Grampians Shire.
“Council has a strong desire to improve the long term sustainability of the Shire’s towns, businesses, community groups and services, through efforts to sustain the population base of the Shire and develop new and innovative local industries,” said Mr Goodsell.
“This process is intended to help shape strategic community planning for the next two decades, providing a foundation for all other work delivered by Council”.
“The feedback from the community will inform the CVF2041 project and the development of a new Council Plan which will commence in 2021, following the Council election”.
Responding to COVID-19 social distancing requirements and concerns for the health of residents, Council will deliver a series of six community meetings held via the online tool BlueJeans from Tuesday 13 October 2020.
“We have selected the BlueJeans online meeting tool to host the community sessions which will be divided by township. This tool is a simple way for our residents to connect to and doesn’t require the downloading of an app. Importantly, it also provides an option for residents without computers or smart phones to simply dial-in to participate,” said Mr Goodsell.
“We recognise that there are still some in our community that are not experienced in the use of online meeting tools like BlueJeans and for this reason our project team will provide support to connect to those who require it”.
