Council seeks feedback on town entry statements

8 July 2019

Southern Grampians Shire Council is encouraging residents to have their say on a new look
town entry statement to be erected on Ballarat road.

This project is stage two of a strategic landscaping project for Hamilton’s town entrances as
identified in the 2011 Hamilton Structure Plan. Together with the landscaping works taking
place on Ballarat Road, these works will significantly improve what is considered to be the
primary entrance to Hamilton.

Council’s Strategic Major Projects Coordinator Daryl Adamson says the project is about
providing residents and visitors with a much improved first impression of the town.

“The project has been guided by the vision to strengthen our urban gateways and
significantly improve the visibility of our town entrances. The new entry statements aim to
create a sense of pride and aspiration for residents and visitors alike,” Mr Adamson said.

“We have received feedback regarding poor presentation of our key entrances to Hamilton,
so this project seeks to rectify that issue and, together with the landscaping project, revitalise
what is a key streetscape in our town,” Mr Adamson said.

Council have received two designs, from Challis Design, who are specialists in entrance and
landscape design, and are now asking for community feedback.

The two designs are both bold statements which aim to celebrate our rural history and
merge this with the sense of a modern progressive township.

The designs can be viewed on Council’s website:

Feedback on the designs can be provided on Council’s facebook poll or via email to
council@sthgrampians.vic.gov.au.

The designs can also be viewed in the Greater Hamilton library until July 31 and a
representative from Council will be available to discuss the options on Wednesday 17 July
from 3 – 5pm.
