Doing Business with Government

7 September 2017

Southern Grampians Shire Council is hosting an information session on how to “do business” with Government. This will include information on how to register for Council’s preferred supplier lists (Works & Services and Dry Plant Hire) and the processes and requirements for submitting tenders.

The preferred supplier lists are used to source businesses to complete short-term, lower-cost (under $8000) jobs. Businesses registered on the list may also be invited to quote when work will cost above the $8000 threshold.

The information session is to guide potential contractors through the tender process and will be held next Thursday 14 September, 2017 from 6:00pm at the Ted Kenna Room (Hamilton Performing Arts Centre) 111 Brown Street, HAMILTON.

Governments at all levels are increasingly looking towards contracts to fulfil services. Council is keen that local businesses are best placed to respond.

The session aims to assist businesses to better understand how to effectively communicate their business capability, address compliance and standard clauses as well as advising how to price their services and follow up for feedback after tenders have been announced.

The evening will involve a presentation from Fiona Davey of SED advisory, a local consultancy firm independent of Council, who has a great track record of working with small business. Council’s Procurement Officer, as well and other staff from Council will also be in attendance.

Southern Grampians Shire Mayor, Cr Mary-Ann Brown said:

“Council is working with businesses to make the tender process as open and transparent as possible and provide greater opportunity for our small businesses. Council has a Capital Works program of $42.394 million to achieve in 2017/18, with significant investment in roads, bridges, footpaths and associated infrastructure and flood recovery works. We are very keen to support local businesses while getting the best value for money for our community.”

The upcoming tenders for the preferred supplier lists will be available on Council’s website www.tendersearch.com.au/sthgrampians in late September, 2017.
