The World’s Largest Swim Lesson in 24 hours promotes the message that swimming lessons save lives to millions around the globe.
Hamilton Indoor Leisure and Aquatic Centre (HILAC) is proud to be an official host for this year’s event, taking place on Thursday June 22.
Since its inception eight years ago, more than 195,000 children and adults have participated in the event across the globe. Lessons will occur at hundreds of locations, in more than 20 different countries, on five continents, over the course of 24 hours. The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson is designed to provide kids and parents exposure to life-saving water safety skills and build awareness about the vital importance of teaching children to swim to help prevent drowning. The event is focused on working to connect the dots between the real risk of childhood drowning and the need for basic water competency skills and crucial parental supervision to keep kids safe in and around the water.
The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson event provides more than 20,000 man hours of water safety training in a single day to help teach participants basic water competency skills and educate parents about how to keep kids safer in and around the water. Research shows participation in formal swimming lessons can reduce the risk of drowning by 88 percent among children aged 1 to 4, yet many kids do not receive formal swimming or water safety training.
Every child that participates in a swimming lesson at HILAC on this day will be counted towards this record breaking experience. All children currently enrolled in a swimming lesson on this date will automatically be counted, however if your child isn’t booked in on June 22, they don’t have to miss out! HILAC will be holding an extra lesson from 4:30pm – 5pm free of charge, so that as many people as possible can be involved. All participants will receive an Official Team Member Certificate to reward their accomplishment.
