Coleraine Flood Investigation Continues

30 November 2017

Members of the Coleraine community are invited to the second information session for the Coleraine Flood Investigation project.

The information session will take place at the Coleraine Senior Citizens Centre (Karingal) – on Wednesday 6 December starting at 7pm.

The information session will provide the opportunity to:

  • hear about progress with the project;
  • learn about the history of flooding in Coleraine;
  • comment on draft flood extent maps for floods of varying sizes;
  • hear about the upcoming survey of building floor levels;
  • put forward ideas for reducing the future impact of floods in Coleraine.

The Coleraine Flood Investigation follows the flood of September 2016 which is thought to have been the worst experienced by Coleraine since the March 1946 flood.

The project has been funded by the Victorian State Government and is being delivered by Venant Solutions in association with Michael Cawood and Associates and Hamilton based, Utilis Consulting. Southern Grampians Shire council is being assisted with the management of the project by the Glenelg Hopkins CMA who are the Regional Floodplain Management Authority.

The project will be completed in the second half of 2018 and will deliver for the first time, a robust understanding of flood risk at Coleraine. The information produced by the investigation will provide for improved response to future flood emergencies and will identify options for reducing the impact of future floods in Bryan and Konongwootong Creeks.

If you have any questions about the information session or the project please email the Southern Grampians Shire at colerainefloodstudy@sthgrampians.vic.gov.au or phone Graeme Jeffery at the Glenelg Hopkins CMA on 5571 2526.
