Maternal and Child Health

If you’re a parent, we encourage you to attend our Maternal and Child Health Services during all the key ages/stages of your child’s development.

Our Maternal and Child Health service begins with a home visit to the mother after she has been discharged from the hospital with her new baby. From there, Maternal and Child Health nurses will give you on-going support through our First-Time Mother’s Group.

Both parents are welcome to attend each First-Time Mother’s Group gathering, which will inform you about breastfeeding, nutrition, child safety, dental issues, immunisation, language development and growth stages. Not only is this a great way to learn about parenting, but also to meet and share experiences with other parents.

Our Maternal and Child Health services are reachable from eight locations across the municipality and available to you free of charge, throughout the year.

We also provide referrals to a lactation consultant if you need professional advice and/or support with breastfeeding your baby.
