| A healthy, sustainable environment is vital to everyone. The new Local sustainability Strategy will address environmental sustainability at a local level.
The term environmental sustainability is used to describe how we maintain the many important qualities, processes and products that the environment provides, many of which contribute to our own wellbeing and quality of life.
Every day we benefit from the many resources and processes that are provided by the natural environment. Some of these benefits are referred to as 'ecosystem services' and include products like clean drinking water, fertile soils and clean air, and processes such as the decomposition of waste.
Other benefits are more intrinsic in nature. For example, the environment around us provides us with areas of natural beauty to admire and be part of, pleasant places to inhabit and enjoy, and a diversity of habitat for native plants and animals.
The new Strategy will seek to improve local environmental sustainability performance, building upon the current achievements of the local community and Council. | |
