| Why do we need rates? | | Rates help fund a wide range of services provided by Council which include street lighting, maintenance of local roads, footpaths, drainage and also a wide variety of community services that range from maternal and child health to aged and disability services. | |
| What is a valuation? | | A valuation is an assessment of the market value of a property, at a specific date. Under State Legislation, the Southern Grampians Shire Council is required to conduct general valuations every two years. This is a process of assessing the value of all properties in the Shire.
Valuations that will appear on your rate notice are based on levels of value as at 1 January 2008.
Enquiries about rates and valuations can be directed to Council's Rates Department, on (03) 5573 0444. | |
